Over the last decade there has been a shocking and unacceptable rise in workplace discrimination against pregnant women and new mothers. This has prompted MPs to demand urgent government action to introduce systems similar to those already in place in Germany.
A study in March by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, and the Equality and Human Rights Commission found that currently, a massive 77% of pregnant women and new mothers experience discrimination at work. This is compared with 45% 10 years ago.
Protection in place in Germany, ensures pregnant women can only be made redundant in certain circumstances.
